Kenneth Tharp OBE
In 2003 Kenneth Tharp was awarded a Churchill Travelling Fellowship, enabling him to travel to South Africa to study the training of young dancers and in the same year was honoured with an OBE for services to Dance.
Kenneth has recently joined the staff at The Royal Ballet School as Artistic Co-ordinator of the Partnership and Access Programme, is Education Associate for the Royal Opera House Chance to Dance programme and sits on the Royal Opera House Board of Trustees.
He is Dancer in Residence at Queens' College Cambridge, and assistant to the Head of Contemporary Dance at Millennium Dance 2000. With composer Simon Redfern he is co-director of Artyfartyarts, a multidisciplinary arts group.
Since dancing with the internationally acclaimed London Contemporary Dance Theatre, Kenneth has performed with many other companies and has worked extensively as a choreographer, musician, teacher and director. He has choreographed 35 works, including Danger! Men at Play, for the Royal Ballet’s Outside In season in 2002, and was artistic director of the Sadler's Wells Youth Dance Company from 1994-2000.
In June 2005 Kenneth was announced as one of the new fellows joining the Clore Leadership Programme, an initiative that aims to help train and develop a new generation of leaders in the arts in the UK.
